Seguin Hybrid Chestnut — Castanea seguinii x mollissima
Dwarf Asian Chestnut with Dark Brown Nuts
We received this cross many years ago and have a few producing trees at our farm. It is a smaller fruited strain that produces quickly from seed in as little as 3 to 5 years. Rounded open crown. Clusters of burrs form at the end of the branches. As trees mature yields increase and the growth habit becomes more upright. Nuts are very sweet and a beautiful brown color. Seguin chestnut is native to China. Possible resistance to gall wasp and immune to chestnut blight. Height to 30 ft. or less. Rare.
