Chinese Chestnut — Castanea mollissima

Reliable and Adaptable Species Chestnut- Blight Immune and Productive

This is the species used for chestnut orchards and yard trees. Because of its blight immunity and its large nut size this tree has been widely distributed in North America. Very adaptable to Michigan’s sandy acidic soils. Works well as a pollenizer for all other chestnuts and is compatible even with the American species. This species grows 2 – 3 ft. per year until production begins. Trees are like a standard apple tree at maturity reaching 30- 40 wide and high. Grown from seeds produced in Michigan. This particular seed source is very productive. Hardy in zone 5.
