American PlumPrunus americana
Highly Adapted Species Plum with Heavy Yields
Profuse flowering and fruiting make this a favorite of wild food buffs.
Pernicious once established, this species plum can grow anywhere. At one time, there were hundreds of varieties of this plum and it is still used today as an understock for grafting. Fruit color can vary from yellow to red. It is easy to grow and rarely has few diseases or insects that affect production. Fruit ripening starts in late August. This is our common native plum found along streams and borders in woods from Connecticut to Manitoba to Florida. There is quite a bit of variation in fruit size and color. Small to medium light red to yellow fruit. Make sure you have at least two plants because loner plants usually do not have a lot of fruit on them. Will pollinate with Dunsbar plum. Height to 20 ft. ECOS: From high quality fruiting plants with sweet fruit.
